Lighten up folks.....

Over the past couple of days this light-hearted tale about a journalism trainee faced with a dilemma over whether to take a job in his girlfriend's home city or his own has become one of our most commented-on stories ever.

Most of the posters seemed to think it wasn't a story and that we shouldn't have run it, although one or two made the point that it was a human interest tale that most journalists could probably relate to.

As editor I stand by our decision to run it - and not just because it got more than 1,500 page views in one day and provoked a huge amount of debate and interaction on the site.

HoldtheFrontPage certainly has a harder news agenda these days than it once did. But those who criticise us for the occasional foray into light-heartedness perhaps need to lighten up a bit themselves.
